Construction launched on 39-MW solar project in Vietnam

The construction of a 39-MW solar park was initiated last week in the Vietnamese province of Binh Thuan, with commissioning scheduled for April next year.
The company behind the VND-1-trillion (USD 43m/EUR 36m) project is Binh Thuan Solar Power Investment JSC. To be located in the southern part of the country, the Song Luy 1 plant will use 130,000 photovoltaic (PV) mono PERC panels with an expected output of 80 million kWh per year. Equipment and technology will be delivered by companies including Spain’s Sigma Energy, Tractebel, the engineering unit of France’s Engie (EPA:ENGI), ABB Ltd (VTX: ABBN), Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp (TMEIC) and JA Solar Holdings Co Ltd (NASDAQ:JASO).
Nguyen Ngoc Hai, chairman of Binh Thuan People’s Committee, said, as cited by local media, that the project will help spark further investor interest in similar projects in the province. Binh Thuan targets to attract solar energy projects with a combined capacity of over 4,000 MW by 2030.
Earlier this month, a unit of Japan’s Sharp Corporation (TYO:6753) announced plans to build two solar parks in Vietnam, each with a direct current (DC) capacity of 49 MW. One of those will be situated in Binh Thuan Province.
